     Looks like lab and cave. Caves will have no sunlight to kill the wolfman virus plus high concentration of carriers (bats) and labs are too busy being unethical with animals to properly control for a coughing sneezing rabid animal spreading.

     @BowsacNoodle @Shadowman311 @weaf I'd guess both examples, cave which I've heard about one case, and lab airborne rabies, are not solidly documented but can't be ignored. As in you're expecting the victims to perfectly remember every possible wound exposure ... after they're symptomatic for rabies in the brain. :saddest:

     As for hantavirus infection, you will not be surprised to learn that's currently at the top of the professional version of the online Merck Manual's home page. Which confirms my memory that:

     "Transmission to humans has only been documented from rodents through inhalation of aerosols of rodent excreta or, rarely through rodent bites."

     This episode will reexamine that (and person to person air transmission of Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) maybe wouldn't be a surprise in the close confines of a ship), but for now it's a better bet that there's at least one part of that ship that's inadequately cleaned of rat droppings thanks the the universal replacement of whites with Third Worlders as crew for cruise ships. Vs. an oral route through a kitchen, the gut is a seriously hostile place for pathogens for obvious reasons.

     Somehow I didn't read the next sentence in the Merck Manual on hantavirus:

     "Human-to-human transmission can occur with Andes virus."

     Per Wikipedia there's fifty known types arising from 37 official species, although there's a significant difference between Old World and New World types, and the MV Hondius departed from Ushuaia, Argentina, which "claims the title of world's southernmost city."

     For the moment this is not something to be seriously worried about, the danger is from serial passage through humans resulting in a virus that's sufficiently better adapted to that sort of transmission and only so much of that happened. A cruise is of course well suited for this mode of transmission, so far seven confirmed cases and two suspected out of 150 total crew and passengers.

     "The Pathoplexus team published a preliminary analysis of the known sequences of the virus on virological.org. This includes sequences from 5 patients, two from Johannesburg, two from the Netherlands, and the one aforementioned Swiss sequence. The sequences are all very similar to each other, suggesting a single zoonotic spill."

     RNA virus with three segments so it's not going to be super accurate in replication, this "very similar." Basically no possibility of hybridization in the current scenario unlike what often happens with the flu ("don't sneeze on a pig"). Again per Wikipedia, over a hundred cases a year of the rather lethal pulmonary syndrome, and the Andes virus is the most common cause.

     That syndrome was only discovered in 1993 when 37 people got it in the US, albeit it wasn't the Andes version. Retrospectively cases going back as far as 1959 have been discovered (happens through testing saved samples).

     Yow, six paratroopers and two medical types plus several tons of supplies parachuted onto Tristan da Cunha, an island in the middle of the South Atlantic, which doesn't have an airstrip.
