     A server-level announcement from @TheAdmin has been shared a couple of hours ago:

     > Regarding version updates: The source code for this server has been modified from the original version, so updating may be slightly difficult. The operations team is currently evaluating the feasibility of a server version update. Please follow @TheAdmin for future updates on progress.

     This is actively being worked on now with @MastodonEngineering team.

     @warning @Linux @Sujiyan @mellifluousbox @haubles The instance maintainer is active and engaged, regularly posting content. The instance is funded, and the organization behind it has a track record of supporting and developing Mastodon.

     The conflict: (1) .cloud is based in Japan, (2) they aim to keep the instance open, (3) they lack dedicated admin and moderation teams, though that’s common across many instances, and (4) it’s one of several internet projects they support, not a primary focus.

     Mastodon.cloud was already a failed site, since I can call @TheAdmin and @Sujiyan a jackass and no one is going to stop me. They’re gone! They don’t care.

     Mastodon.cloud has been debated for over a year. Yesterday, many Fediverse sites decided they were fed up with the spam and other nonsense from here and chose to de-federate Mastodon.cloud.

     I came here to warn the users because it’s clear they had no idea how bad things had gotten, being the last to know.
