Wait a week or so. I am currently writing a paper on this.
These conclusions are all argumentative.
I am using hard data, inflation adjusted, individually PPP adjusted per week, where possible, with Reichsbank and League of Nations data, as well as original minutes of meetings, etc.
Opinions don't matter.
I think I can proof, that the key two French people, including the PM, as well as Field Marshal Foch, the British PM, as well as the...

But the hyperinflation of 1923 does substantiate one of the general stated reasons for hyperinflation, which is destruction of economic productivity, while the government is issuing increasing amounts of currency to keep the economy afloat for other reasons.
In an exquisitely painful way , Adolf screaming about the government destroying Germany had a kernel of truth to it. That made a lot of other things he was saying slide or be given credibility.
@n_dimension @HistoPol @benfell
Later on in the text, then I’m drawing from the Wikipedia quotes basically the peak hyperinflation of 1923 was a product of the general strike, commanded by the government when France and Belgium occupied the Rhur. In order to provide for the workers they had ordered to strike they simply printed money and that’s when in 1923 hyper inflation went straight into the stratosphere.
Reparations causing hyperinflation is reductionist

“ They have similarly overlooked the fact that the inflation mushroomed in the period from the summer of 1921 to the end of 1922 when Germany was actually paying very little reparations. They have also failed to explain why the period of least inflation coincided with the period of largest reparation payments in the late 20s or why Germans claimed after 1930 that the reparations were causing deflation.”

“ .. Those historians who have accepted the German claim that reparations were the cause of the inflation, have overlooked the fact that the inflation long period dated reparations“
No, this is not referring to the peak hyper inflation of 1923

“ By this time, Germany's currency depreciation had become acute. This depreciation had begun during World War I and had continued at an erratic pace. A conjunction had developed between reparations deadlines and dramatic inflationary lurches of the mark.”

...the governor of the Bank of England, and 2 Lords, delegated by the PM, aided and abetted, at the very least, by the future President Hoover and Dulles, are all guilty by corresponding current national criminal law standards of the times of criminal conspiracy to destruct the German economy, for years to come (at least verified for the named people in Europe). --I lack access to some special national archives in the US.

Hoover and Dulles developed, implemented, and (so far) got away with the "Plausible Deniability" approach, pioneered under Eisenhower and carried out under JFK, (#BayOfPigs, see my other recent thread).

"Interesting. The amount of continuous negotiation of reparations over the 1920s has never really mentioned in most historical accounts. diluted repeatedly."
That is actually part of what I'm investigating.
This can be solved methodologically, but with lots of investigative work, number crunching, etc.
@n_dimension @HistoPol @benfell
“ When Germany slid into acute financial crisis on the heels ofthe September 1930 election, German leaders began to seek reparations relief, although the initial credit crisis itself was caused primarily by a dramatic flight of capital in response to Hitler's electoral success, not by reparation”
Interesting. The amount of continuous negotiation of reparations over the 1920s has never really mentioned in most historical accounts. diluted repeatedly.

I tried 15 min. to get logged in. That worked, eventually. - However, not having institutional access currently, I REFUSE reading 26 rather "copied" pages on screen. Too tedious. (also, I alays mark the text while reading, processing them)- Too bad, contrasting it eventually to my findings would have been something...
I have jumped through the text and, yes there are some conventional wisdoms etc...
@HistoPol @n_dimension @benfell
Out of curiosity, did you read the article I’ve been quoting from? It’s 26 pages but I think you’ve already said that it’s a lot of assertion without data behind it.
Her comments about inflation with respect to “reparations” are very pointed because the conventional narrative is that the economic burden of them is what caused hyper inflation.
As usual, history is more nuanced than the reductionist marquee story

...and some new things HOWEVER if you do the real ground work of econometrics and not wallow "oh, that data is scattered or not to come by, hyperinflation,..." (I'm exagerating on purpose) then, ALL you say as analysis is not really worth the paper you write on. - AFTER I discovered what really happened TO Weimar in post-WWI, I asked Cicero's Cui bono. We even (no not Cicero, lol) hypothesized through...

The findings are utterly devastating. I am only lacking the ones for Dulles and Hoover. They seem to have "disappeared" from public access right afte they ran back to the US in 1919 when they realized what was happened and had created...

...a perfect case of plausible deniablility, which held until yesterday. Even though it is too late, we applied national criminal-law standards to try the 6 undertakers of Weimar by contemporary standard, posthumously, of course.
Just as with the Bay of Pigs, the public in all countries was not told the truth. The truth is also, that the public in the UK (LLoyd George was afraid of being seen as too lenient) and France smelled that there was blood in the air. TBC//
...and you would not be mistaken.

By the time 1932 came along and with the additional suffering inflicted by austerity, it really suggests that the German people who by all accounts had been very long suffering, political violence, economic turmoil, the devastation of the early 1920s plus the war, all from political system that was a little more than chuckle fluster cuck.
I can’t help thinking I’m reminded of something going on now

So that’s an interesting statement that capital flight because Hitler was elected push the German economy into acute economic crisis.
Classically a nation falls into economic crisis when it has debt denominated in a currency not its own. The US and I believe JP Morgan did lead here issued the number of loans for Germany over the ladder half of the 1920s. After a few years of recovering, the German economy fell into recession / depression at the end of 1927.

The funny thing is is it’s not really 26 pages. If you skip over the references which often can take up a quarter of a page and she uses a lot of references.
The pages themselves appear to be scanned from actual paper.
ah, the envy, and oh, the old times.
Well, going to the state capital, that could work for me, too, lol. Just like in the iron age, or was it bronze, IDK...

Yeah, I am forever thankful that I have a public library a half a block from where I live and then I walk in with my tablet here and get into the Wi-Fi and go and download whatever from JSTOR.
It’s kind of crazy that it’s so messed up for you.
My friend, the REFERENCES could really turn out the "only" interesting thing about the paper eventually. ;)
