I just bought a NanoKVM Lite on AliExpress, and it does not have the infamous microphone on it. The pad for it is unpopulated.

@StarkRG They had a microphone in a previous revision because it's built on top of a dev board they were already making that had one.

Regardless of the software, it's going on a VLAN that denies egress traffic by default.

@ryanc Nifty, why would they have a microphone? Perhaps it's a touch paranoid, but I'd still suggest replacing the software with one that definitely won't phone home.

@StarkRG Should be well documented for OpenWRT. I do hard mode with a router that's just running vanilla Debian, and only run OpenWRT on my WiFi access points.

@ryanc That sounds like something I should look into. Its probably easy enough on OpenWRT...

@ryanc OOI have you written about your Debian setup anywhere? I have had problems with every single router/AP vendor and OS I have tried (the common factor is me) and it might be nice to try something "barebones" @StarkRG

@voltagex @StarkRG I have not. I am hesitant to do so since I am occasionally on the receiving end of targeted attacks and I don't want to provide a map.
