   So it turns out the report on Facebook being behind the gigantic sudden push for "age verification" laws was LLM slop. 🤬 https://old.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1rshc1f/i_traced_2_billion_in_nonprofit_grants_and_45/

   The underlying facts are ~probably~ still true, but the doubt this casts are immensely harmful and delay action.

   This is one of the many ways LLMs destroy the ability to trust information: by undermining the credibility of likely well-meaning people who use them.

     @cr1901 I'm guessing they wanted it to look like a "professional" report, and/or to hide identifying language patterns that would be there writing it themselves. But the slop also makes it too long to read, like it's supposed to be impressive by the length rather than by pointedness.

     @catsalad But was the Methodology section itself slop just making those claims about how the slop machine was used, or is it accurate? Who knows. Because the preparer (hard to even call them author) has already demonstrated they trust the slop machine.
