     @jeridansky that reminds me of the time I searched for my grandfather's name in the Imperial War Museum archive and found a film clip of him as a 28 year old Aide de camp to the British ambassador in Cairo, 1938. It blew my mind.

     I wonder who bought it ... maybe someone with a connection to your grandmother or to that children's home.

     And where/why that seller acquired it, especially since they deal in collectible sports images, it seems.

     @cynblogger Wow! How wonderful! I can barely imagine how that must have felt.

     There was nothing really surprising about my find, except that it was there, online, ready to be found. And that someone was selling the photo!

     @wilpercy @jeridansky My recent discoveries have mostly been less happy (stories of family violence, in fact.) But a few years back I discovered I'm not the only person in my lineage with a patent when I stumbled on my 3x-great-grandfather's patent for a removable handle for a cross-cut saw.

     @wilpercy @jeridansky But when I was a kid in the '70s, we were watching some WW2 documentary, and my mother practically jumped off the couch and said "that's my father!" in one of the scenes. I've been looking for that footage off and on ever since without luck (no one in the family remembers the title of the documentary, and TV Guide archives have not been helpful—too much to search).

     @cynblogger No. Grandma lived in Ohio and my family was in Michigan. She did various charitable works that got some newspaper coverage.
