    RE: https://mastodon.social/@firefoxwebdevs/116002119945073671

    For all us Web Developers there is the WebExtensions API detailed here (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions) on the Mozilla Developer Network made by Mozilla, but for Mozilla we have this "AI Controls" mess, the most incredible display of "what is consent...really?"

      Extensions, or add-ons, can modify and enhance the capability of a browser. Extensions for Firefox are built using the WebExtensions API cross-browser technology.

      @vfrmedia @onepict @fasterandworse This has been Mozilla since day 1. The management have always been drunk on the dotcom era fantasy that ads and scammy partnerships are how you make free things sustainable. They all need to be ousted and replaced by responsible stewardship that doesn't care about being paid executive salaries. The real work the organization should be doing could be funded fully with 1-5% of the budget.

      @onepict @fasterandworse

      I've never trusted Mozilla since they made the open statement a few years ago "the modern web is funded by advertising" without any apologies, which made it clear they weren't prepared to consider any alternatives to this (and were obviously going to facilitate adtech, as static ads on a site were rarely as much of an issue in previous decades)

      @fasterandworse Mozilla are trying to manufacture consent to just let them do the AI, and I'm sick of them doing it and the pick-up artists vibes it's giving.

      in case it's not clear, Mozilla could have pleased *everyone* by making all this stuff into browser extensions. They've been hammered with feedback about this but have not addressed it.

      @dalias @vfrmedia @onepict @fasterandworse decentralization and volunteering and running things on the scale of communities is how you make free things sustainable ^^ the opposite of that is an absurd stance frankly.
