    I am really excited to watch streams of #FOSDEM talks tomorrow concerning #Fediverse discovery and following global hashtags: https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/track/social-web/

    I believe that this all could work much better than #FediBuzz if it gets built into server implementations itself.

      @astro Some servers already have all the necessary capabilities. The missing piece is https://github.com/astro/buzzrelay/issues/79

      @astro LitePub was like a dialect of ActivityPub, but LitePub relay protocol - yes, it is used for both publishing and consuming content.

      FediBuzz can follow servers and even other LitePub relays, which will Announce public posts to it.

      I think FASP is not necessary because we already have similar capabilities in ActivityPub. And those capabilities can be expanded: https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/idea-for-a-more-capable-relay-server/8442

        Idea for a more capable relay server
        Very often I hear from users and ex-users of the Fediverse, that they they complain about posts that never reached their accounts. For example they subscribed to a hashtag on two accounts on separate servers. Now they see that both servers deliver different posts. A solution for that are relay servers. But not every admin wants to receive thousands of unwanted posts just receive the few ones with content that a user wanted. A solution for that would be a relay server that would be able to deli...

      @silverpill So this is what LitePub is for? There is now also https://github.com/mastodon/fediverse_auxiliary_service_provider_specifications/blob/main/discovery/data_sharing/v0.1/data_sharing.md

      @astro Thank you for adding support for Create/Update! Do you ingest these activities through hashtag actor inboxes?

      This might explain amplification, as hashtags can be followed by regular users too. This is how I use FediBuzz -- I just follow hashtags from this account, and relayed posts appear as reposts (boosts) in my feed.

      @silverpill I implemented that relay follow-back in October 2023 and triggered it a few times since then. Gets me 1% of the content compared to Mastodon client APIs.

      Looking at the traffic, I get POSTs on that endpoint from a few manually-entered relays and from Mastodon and Friendica instances that use the buzzrelay. But these two send me every post many times for each of the hashtags they follow on https://relay.fedi.buzz. This spikey traffic amplification scares me and I want it resolved.

      @astro I announced a tagged post to a hashtag actor, the response was 202. Not sure how to verify, though. Does FediBuzz distribute posts back to the originating instance?

      @astro Apparently I am still affected by https://github.com/astro/buzzrelay/issues/132, can't follow a hashtag. I will try to send the Announce activity manually (without a follow relationship), though this will require a bit of work.

      @django

      tags.pub is a project to implement that feature -- collecting tagged content and redistributing it by hashtag

      This is exactly what FediBuzz does. It works great and @astro just added a nice feature to it, which I am about to test.

      @silverpill @astro I checked their website and they said they're using a blocklist, so I'm pretty sure all your instances (including the demo instances) are blocked. I tested forwarding posts from a Mitra instance and that works fine.

      @astro At one point I was in one of those lists, but I don't know the reason (they never tried to contact me). Probably because I am federating with wrong instances, or use cryptocurrency.
