What’s everybody’s read on the attempt at a second general strike this Friday?
From where I sit, it feels much more like a social media action than the on the 23rd; I don’t see the unions or same kind of organizing infrastructure behind it.
On the other hand, apparently it •is• getting a lot of social media traction in some circles? “All I see posts about,” said one student.
What’s the read from where you sit? Does this one have legs? Or is it a day to keep our powder dry?

@inthehands I'm also conflicted by this. It was started by a group of young people. It is gaining traction but it was not organized by a coalition of groups including labor. I think a nationwide strike is being planned for later in the year. Nonetheless, if people can support them I think they should, but don't be disappointed if it doesn't get the 1/23 kind of numbers.

We need to move in this kind of direction, but it’s going to take off-the-charts organizing.

@inthehands The next move should be planning and announcing a series of coordinated national strikes. Announcing one doesn’t pack the punch that a schedule does. Think of it as “the beatings will continue until morale improves… so expect a black eye every first tuesday of the month from here on out”. If biz/gov can expect a series of these happening consistently (and they will grow in size as the people’s ire and courage mounts), they’ll act faster to prevent them.

I think more the latter: a bunch of people will do •somebody•, it won’t make a lot of ripples, but they’ll be primed for further action

@inthehands I'm uneasy about such a rushed, disorganized general strike, because if it ends up being a dud, it might get taken as a signal that support is waning. I would even say that it's unhelpful, because it takes away energy which could have been used for something more organized. But on the other hand, "all PR is good PR". I'm hoping for a good outcome.

@inthehands I note all of these on our shared family calendar and make a point of not doing anything financial on those days - just in case it has legs and it really is organized.
