    "Unlike our Founding Fathers, we are not asked to forge towards the defeat of some implacable enemy through fields and valleys awash with filth and blood. We are not asked to leave our homes, our land, and our families on an almost certainly fatal journey with little hope of return. And we are not asked to die the brutal and agonizing death of so many anonymous patriots, whose last anguished cry was freedom, alone on some cold and desolate battlefield.

    No my friends, all we are asked to do is stand up and fight with our voices and our unaltered votes.

    My fellow citizens, the truth is that the Constitution fails to defend itself, enduring only in the brave hearts of those who would uphold it."

      @SearingTruth @WarnerCrocker
      I've got a thread going at the moment on Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" and I'm curious if either of you have read it?

      It seems to me that any notion of the Founders as seekers of justice and democracy plays into a very long series of lies. A story that is only half truth.

      The details of their plans indicates that they never intended freedom or democracy but control of the poor and working people that they thought of as dumb masses.

      @dennyhenke @SearingTruth Sorry for the delay. Busy getting ready to head out of town.

      I agree things are mythologized into half-truths. I also agree on their intentions. The only pushback on what your thread suggests that I have, is that in context at the moment they were doing what they were doing they were truly inventing something that was new in the world of human and societal governance, but /1

      @dennyhenke @SearingTruth it was only within the context of what they and the world had known up to that point. A world of haves and have nots that they viewed would always exist, or so the religious and other non-religious texts told them. /2

      @dennyhenke @SearingTruth I don't excuse them for their ignorance or shortsightedness. I do condemn those of us who have followed them along in succesive generations for not challenging the myth-making.
