@PopulistRight That's not entirely true. You can go the consulate if you are getting screwed by the local police. Their best option for you might be getting you on the next plane out though.
But I don't think its unreasonable that if US companies spend lots of our money in another country, it's in the US's interest that those countries don't just go "woops thanks for building all that shit, we're gonna take it now" -
