     @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo oh wow, thank you, okay so lightdm is installed with openbox but it doesn't auto start, and I can't startx on a non-root user, I can start X and load openbox as root
     
     i've gone thru the trouble shooting steps here https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Non_root_Xorg
     
     and here https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Elogind
     
     elogind is enabled, the user is added to the video group
     
     I'm using openrc
     
     I suspect it's something to do with use flags, i'll get on that laptop and give me you info
