I think the average person in Singapore goes to ikea at least 12 times a year. After going to the one in downtown SF it will be 0 times a year (they close at.. 7 pm!)

I go sometimes for the Cheezy pizza stall in Saluhall. And Smish Smash burgers. The ikea itself.. kind of meh.

Can’t even get an ikea hotdog at 6 pm (they’re closed). Kind of hilarious

@skinnylatte I have never even seen an IKEA 🤷🏻♀️
U.S. urban storefronts aren't great.

I remember when we moved here there was no ikea. We had to go to Emeryville. Describing to family ‘I have to go to another city to go to ikea’ was right up there with ‘I had to write a check to pay deposit on my rent’

@flauschtext the ones in Singapore I can get to easily by transit. And on foot. I guess that’s an unrealistic expectation

@skinnylatte That's early.
I've only been to IKEA in recent years to liberate a blåhaj. They're usually a bit out of the way, at least if you're on foot. -

IKEA was instrumental to me figuring out my sexual orientation. I went through a period where I identified as bisexual and then a hot boy asked me to go to ikea with him and I was like oh I’m not bi at all
GreenSkyOverMe (Monika) repeated this. -

@skinnylatte one of the things that blew my mind when I lived in Singapore was the sheer selection of think cold weather blankets in the IKEA there. No-one in Singapore needs doonas

@scott sad news, they've closed. a lot of turnover in saluhall tenants, apparently terrible management

@skinnylatte I should go back to Saluhall because Casa Borinqueña is legit. Some of the other places I liked closed tho and I remember they reduced the hours from closing at 10pm to closing at 8pm almost immediately after it opened, making it harder for my nightowl self.

IKEA is like the looking glass of gender and sexuality. You go there to find what you want to find. I could not abide the idea of heterosexuality as performers at IKEA with cis men, but I was happy to go there often with cute girls. (And yesterday I went to one with my wife)
Trans people go to ikea and they find Blåhaj
