    apartment market in Germany is so bad right now that renting means having to pay 14k EUR to "take over" the kitchen that clearly did not cost 14k in the first place, for the privilege of paying 2500 EUR rent on an apartment.

      exploiting others to make our own lives easier, seems to become more common
      as social cohesion lessens,

      @kaia Seems there's a lack of competition.

      @coolboymew @kaia German rentals don't include an outfitted kitchen in the rent. You have to buy it separate as your own property. Sort of like when someone bundles a car as part of their home sale, but sillier.

      @nik mh, thinking about this, maybe the reason German apartments don't have kitchen is to avoid exactly that: a bad kitchen you dislike. was probably important in times past when not every kitchen was a white monolithic sameness slab

      @kaia@brotka.st my new apartment's kitchen was put together by a drunk toddler who thinks levels are evil but it was included and does the job lmao

      @Paradox yes. there are even more immoral offers, e.g. cheaper rooms for female students if they agree to providing certain services, you get my drift

      @kaia So is it a particular city/cities that have high demand?
