@TTimo oh thanks for sharing this, watching with eagerness. (Fun fact: Jake Baldino used to write with me for a little gaming outlet called "Video Game Writers" wayyyyy back in the early 2010s. Now he's a big ole YouTube star!)
@lminiero@TTimo I assumed going in that Valve won't answer that question with an exact number. When they reveal it, they'll do it via an official announcement to control the narrative.
This is still a fascinating interview (so far) though!
@killyourfm@lminiero as an experiment you could go to pc part picker, build a system of equivalent performance and write that down - see how far off the mark once it's announced :)
@TTimo@lminiero True, but what people forget is Valve's "Junkyard Wars" approach to building the Steam Deck and Steam Machine. My understanding is that these semi-custom APUs are essentially "AMD's trash," and you can bet the pricing won't be remotely close to anything you can mock-build with off the shelf parts.
@TTimo@killyourfm yeah, I've seen some websites try and do that. Hopefully it won't be too expensive... as a lazy player that's gotten used to play stuff on the TV while slouching on the couch it would be an amazing opportunity to give new life to the ton of games I bought on Steam and never played, but I'm not going to let them bleed me dry to get it 😁 I paid way too much for the PS5 already...
@lminiero@TTimo But consider that there's never been a "PC 2" if you know what I mean... plus, you'll ultimately pay much less for your game library on PC.
@killyourfm@TTimo yep, that's what intrigues me the most, especially considering I really have a lot of games I bought on a sale and could never play because I don't have a gaming PC. Or all the games I played elsewhere but can't anymore, but could with a Steam Machine (I'm looking at you, Brütal Legend! ❤️ )
@killyourfm@TTimo this is probably where I should boast that I have my PS3 copy signed by Tim Schafer himself, when I visited Double Fine and gifted him limoncello 😅
