It's the original Southern Comfort recipe from the 1840s. It's part of a class of American Liqueurs called "rectified whiskey".
It got that name, because saloons and taverns in New Orleans would buy inexpensive less-aged whiskies that came down the river on barges from Ohio and Pennsylvania and "rectify" them to make them taste better.
This is my personal version of the original SoCo recipe, which I reverse-engineered from watching the historian for the SoCo company make a batch using the original recipe, and then I adjusted it based on taste and trial and error.
I used to use my homemade liqueur ^ to pay for things when I was poorer than I am at the moment. Like, trading a glass for yard work, or by getting invited to BBQs so I could take food home, and so on.
oh, btw, room temp or chilled are both great, or with ice if it's too strong for you, but it can be used in cocktails too.
The taste is close to peach cobbler.
So, super secret serving tip: Winter Fox in a highball glass, put 1 scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, over this, pour 1 shot of OG SoCo (AKA Orange Fox), then 1 shot of McCormick "Whiskey and Cream"*, and then fill the glass the rest of the way with egg nog. Give it a gentle stir, top with whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and stuff a wide straw in it.
*Since this is not always available, an acceptable substitute is Rumchatta, or you can DIY it with any Irish whiskey and evaporated milk in a 1:1 ratio.
Is this drink sweet? Yes. Is it strong? Also yeah, stronger than beer. How is it on protein? It's mostly milk and eggs. This is a gender neutral drink. Protein for the masc folk, cream and sugar for the cat girls.
It's harm reduction to keep your tax dollars from going to arm the aggressor in a genocide. 60% of the cost of a bottle of whiskey is federal taxes. An additional amount is state and local taxes. It has more tax than its original price by 70-80%.
Judging by the pic you posted, I need to get a lot more equpment. I also need to organize some more space, but I am serious about making this. I've been trying to make more stuff at home to save money to spend on my other interests and booze is getting too expensive
I mean it was always too expensive but now it's getting annoying
Note on the name, Southern Comfort is a trademarked brand name, the actual Liqueur name is Orange Fox. That's a thing you know now. So most of the cocktails for it have the fox theme going full bore in the naming convention. For example, the Florida Fox. rim an old fashioned glass with cinnamon-sugar, put 1 whisky-ice-cube (the large icecubes for serving whiskey) in, fill with orange juice nearly to the top, pour a shot each of grenadine and orange fox gently so they sink to the bottom. It's like a tequila sunrise, but with orange fox instead, and smaller and stronger.
Also, pretty much every worldwide scripture says interest / usury is evil. That's what most currencies are based on now, so the less money you use the less usury you participate in.
I'm like 90% convinced we've all missed the point of religion and that we're supposed to go be feral in order to be happy. Not lacking tech, but just go be feral.
De-colonize doesn't go hard enough. We need to rewild like when monkeys are released back to the jungle, it's not like they forgot how to make s'mores..
