    You — yes YOU! — can do double good:

    - Support Starbucks workers
    - Fight Starbucks’s hostile redefinition of the word “macchiato” https://wandering.shop/@mxtiffanyleigh/115542970557364917

      As of November 13, 2025 Starbucks workers across the country (United States) are officially ON STRIKE. Do not cross the picket line - skip the Caramel Macchiato or Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso etc for a while. A less significant but related q: I've seen in print numerous times that November 13 is the "busiest day of the year" for Starbucks. Who & how determined that Nov 13 was the busiest day of Starbucks's year? And *why* is Nov 13 the "busiest" day for Starbucks?

      Instructions:

      1. Visit your locally owned coffee shop

      2. Order a macchiato

      3. When they ask, “Just to be clear, you mean a double shot with a small amount of foam?” you say “Yes, obviously. Starbucks ruined it for everyone, didn’t they?”

      4. Nod sagely along with the barista

      @ljrk
      It’s basically an over-large latte with a bunch of syrup

      (or something like that, I’ve never had one)

      @inthehands I've been to a Starbucks once because they had a toilet. How do they make macchiatos there? :'-D

      You are drinking espresso, therefore you do not have this problem

      @libroraptor

      A doppio is pretty much the standard for all espresso drinks except •maybe• a fancy unadorned shot. And a doppio is still similar to or slightly less than the caffeine of a single cup of brewed coffee in most cases. So arguably doppio •is• the “normal” amount.

      @inthehands un doppio is the default now?

      That's alas also a New Zealand problem. If you want a normal quantity, you have to remember to ask for it.

      I believe the operating principle here is

      (1) you are always entitle to your “yuck”

      (2) don’t “yuck” somebody else’s “yum”
