Hmm, are the GOES satellites below or above the aurora? 🤔
(no aurora visible in my part of Southern California, because... marine layer). #aurora

Someone in Las Vegas (not me, alas) caught this. Hard to imagine a city with more light pollution
And even with air traffic still greatly reduced, you can see a line of planes in the sky
@ai6yr @smellsofbikes @Stormgren @MLE_online I'm horribly jealous that it's far enough south to see but orange county has too much light pollution. Even if I went to the "nature preserve" near me I normally can't even see stars there so I doubt I'd see anything tonight. Boo.
@Stormgren @MLE_online @ai6yr Friends on the NM/CO border are taking pictures much better than what I'm getting.
@smellsofbikes @Stormgren @MLE_online Just saw a picture from Texas. So much light pollution in LA though.... Good time to be in Death Valley (well, until you are trapped by the rain tomorrow) 🤪
@MLE_online @ai6yr I'm seeing posts from people in NM who are seeing it, so chances are good.
@ai6yr Is it reaching down this far?

Okay, I've been thinking about this for a bit and am willing to be unapologetically stupid when I ask:
Why is light pollution worse for being super close to the coast? I think of beaches as dark places, so I am clearly missing something. Help me out?
@kims @ai6yr @smellsofbikes @Stormgren @MLE_online Very cool!
(our light pollution situation isn't helped by being super close to the coast, it's been pretty cloudy today and some fog looked like it was rolling in as the sun went down)
