Small reminder that responses like "People need to learn how to use a computer" is the exact reason you fucking dunces are laughed at. Windows was popular because the average person did not need to know what a daemon is, or how the process scheduler handles specific locks :ihavenomouth: likes this. -

@lunarised imagine if the same view was widely adapted in regards to welding -

@lunarised imagine if people, who don't know how to weld properly, blamed the design of the welding equipment for their bad welds. Like for welding equipment you need to learn how to use a computer, and if you're not willing to learn that, you get mediocre results at best. Sure some people prefer learning windows, but they still need to learn it. They idea that any of this is intuitive or easy for beginners is ridiculous. -

@condret imma be real with you chief. Bad faith take there
Windows is built for the every man, Linux isn't (maybe it shouldn't be)
Welding is something that 99% of the population never even think about.
The average person uses a computer, and the average person doesn't weld -

@sarvo KDE is probably the closest thing to a middle user friendly Linux based OS... But it still needs a but more GUI work i think for the average computer user (Think Bill from accounting whos used computers his whole life) to swap over
The swap over isnt impossible (Android change their entire look and feel yearly), people just need to realize there is a need for a cohesive user friendly GUI that doesn't require a command line to do basic functions -

@sarvo I like installers personally for my day to day user experience (hate finding where all the shit goes sometimes under apt or pacman).
But its things like Bill wanting pdf previews in his file explorer, and then the linux comunity sperging out saying "THATS THE JOB OF ANOTHER PROGRAM, NOT THE FILE MANAGER"
end to end solutions is what Bill wants. He doesnt want to build his own pipelines -

@lunarised@whinge.town I think bill from accounting would find impossible to switch to Linux but not because of the desktop environment, more likely software availability and how badly domesticated is the niggercattle average windows user. An easy example would be installing programs, you do not use installers on Linux, that's retarded but Bill from accounting will try to do that and fail miserably on Linux.
Still I believe the best bet for making Linux mainstream is an immutable OS with flatpaks. And I believe many people could handle a Linux system like that as it is essentially android from a user perspective. -
