Was very confused why my cloned drive was not being mounted I found out that UUID are stored as part of the file system and when you clone a drive you also clone the ID of the partitions, this creates a fun situation where you have 2 partitions with identical unique identifiers.

@amberdambey Well I know what would happen, which ever is last in the port order would be the only 1 mounted

@BrodieOnLinux easy solution: make every single partition have the same uuid

@BrodieOnLinux sounds like a part of cloning you possibly might want a commandline flag to set for?

@biglinter Maybe, I just used Clonezilla so it's probably an option in advanced mode

It's an easy fix if I wanted to keep using it, there's a tool to just randomize the UUID again

@BrodieOnLinux@mstdn.social Also a fun thing to run into when doing stuff with VMs, Virtualbox at least does not like knowing two VDIs with the same ID

@BrodieOnLinux
btw there are also partuuids in the GPT partition table if you're using that, you may want to check those as well. -
