How long has Apple had Retina (so 4K class at desktop size and 1440p at laptop size) again? And why has there been no mass drive to match this in the decade since?

2012 Retina Macbook Pro. 2025, 1920x1080 (or 1920x1200 if you're lucky) still standard on non-Macs. Shameful.

Not even to speak of the desktop situation where 27" 1080p still has not been made illegal.

The entire world has decided to go with double insulation over grounding for some reason (I assume economical + getting held back by first world shitholes like the US and Japan) so yeah

You can have tons of wattage in an ungrounded device btw, like 2.3kW hair dryers with ungrounded plugs are very common in Europe (that's 230V 10A!)

this is frustrating because this repeats a truth anyone could intuit if we as a society stopped being SaaS brained and ever considered the idea of running LLMs locally

and it's also frustrating because it does not provide actual facts about the impact of training, which I am pretty sure is the actual environmental "problem" of LLM usage

Some company needs to like show the costs of training amortized against calls to the LLM or whatever to show some number you can judge from since otherwise people can just yell "but the datacenters are big scary masses of concrete that surely ruin the world"
