     @RickiTarr BTW, the frame of mind that I try to use for that context is "delightfully unexpected." I don't always get it right, but I try.

     Then again, I have friends who enjoy being called "weird." But that's another thing entirely. And, really, thank Dog for them.

     Before I met my wife, at a party, I mentioned I didn't really want children. A woman looked at me horrified and said, "You're a monster!" I didn't say anything because WTF?

     I've lost count of the number of times people have asked my wife and I why we don't have kids.

     I started telling them that we didn't breed well in captivity.

     If I'm being honest, I still work on myself with this one. There's nothing wrong asking if you're legitimately curious, but no one has to explain themselves if they don't want to. Imagine how nice it would be if people could just accept that if something isn't for them, they can just not do it, and leave everyone else alone.
