Windows users are like lactose intollerant people -
"Every time I eat cheese, I feel like I'm dying and it hurts so bad I wish I would." "Don't eat dairy then" "But I NEED cheese! How about I chemically alterate it, for a higher price? It'll only feel like death a little bit!"
@hellomiakoda Comparison to food does not sound like a good comparable because there's hundreds upon hundreds of types of foods, and ... what only two or three OS types.
Linux and Mac keep freezing hard when I'm using Discord. Discord runs smooth on Windows.
@GreenRoc Runs on mine without freezing. So, we can try to figure out whats different that may be the cause.
Alternatively, try a program called Dissent. It's a light Discord client. I use that since my RP group INSISTS on Discord and I fucking hate Discord. Dissent even runs on my Linux phone without much trouble.
@hellomiakoda Linux is so fresh and new to me that I am often frustrated with some of the stuff I cant figure out, all these fresh to me new names I dont understand, where is the version of MS paint, where is the file exporer, and the time on the hotbar I like on a vertical taskbar is too damn tiny to see.
I do loathe windows 11 and wish I could go back to xp, but xp is broken as hell because of programmers forcing new stuff.
@GreenRoc I can certainly help you get up to speed. For your clock, that is definitely adjustable, at least on Plasma (I haven't poked around gnome in ages. It likely can be adjusted there too. If you are.on gnome, I'll spin up gnome so I can accurately assist)
@GreenRoc Dolphin, Thunar, Caja, and Nautilus are your 4 most comkon default file managers. If you are on KDE Plasma, krunner (hit alt + space) should pull it up if you type "files".
Everything in Linux is a "file". Everything! /dev is where devices are /home/[your user name] are where your personal files are, and can be accessed by ~ instead of having to type all that.
All folders are below / Instead of c:/ and d:/ for different drives, your cd rom might be /mnt/cdrom
@hellomiakoda And some things I can never get used to.
EG: Mobile phones, it still fails to work with my fingers, more than half the time it will assume I pressed somewhere I did not intend to press, I WRITE faster thAN i type on a mobile phone, and I been trying to get me to learn thosr thinfs for years.. if it wasnt so damned expensive I'd throw it across the room from the level of frustration I feel for the thing disobeying me half the time I use the phone device.
@hellomiakoda Ah so there is one thing I cant get on the Linux, and that is Windows Phone Link.
Right now, Windows Phone Link is the only way I can get photos from my phone into my Windows computer which is where I access my email which is where I am required to send digital copies of receipts which I take photos with my phone.
@GreenRoc What kind of phone? Most Androids can show up in Linux as a drive. Plug it in, there's all your files, includng photos. You just need to set the USB mode to, I think it's mtp
@GreenRoc My last 2 android photos actually also did this wirelessly with KDE Connect. I just click "browse phone" on my computer, as long as the phone was n my wifi, and boop, there's my pictures and everything else.
@hellomiakoda Ah, so we agree there. I wanted a blackberry so bad, and... I wish current phone service providers would bring back that blackberry keypad!
The touch screens just dont understand my fingers. I keep getting my current window closed because the phone thinks my knuckle is an intentional tap.
I barely touch the edges of the phone just to grab it and the damn thing things I poked a side. FFS I loathe these touch screens. I want a tactile Keyboard dammit.
@contrapunctus@GreenRoc The trouble with that suggestion is the same reason I'm stuck with it - I can't get the people I need to chat with to get off Discord.
Dissent is at least a less shitty version.
I don't, however, discuss personal thibgs on Discord. "I can't offer you support via this platform. I'm sorry, it's not safe" is a phrase I've had to use. I treat it as lightly as PSN chat.
At the age of 18, when I started studying in art college and learning classical music, I also started dual-booting #Linux, but…found myself almost never using Windows after that.
It’s been over 12 years since then. I simply never used #Windows after that.
It’s not magic, and you’re not incapable of learning 🙃
As for #Discord, nobody should be using that proprietary/monopolistic spyware anyway. Ditch it and move to #XMPP.
