Now regretting using a static site generator for crumbles.blog, as on reflection I think I’d quite like to have comments, and all the comment options for static sites appear to involve multi-gigabyte JavaScript and/or GDPR-violating privacy policy/cookie notice extravaganzas

@dpk @kitten_tech i've been wondering if i should add support for running Wasm blobs on the backend (wazero doesn't have the component model so it'd have to be basically CGI... which is fine i guess?)

@dpk make your SSG generate mainly static HTML with a bit of database-backed PHP for comments.
I know PHP isn't a great language, but you can just embed it in HTML and enable server side processing and you're done 👍

@dpk @kitten_tech this really stretches the definition of "static pages" but i love shoving webassembly into places it 100% belongs so like why not; wazero makes it not really an issue security-wise
the only real problem is "ok, how do we do writes?"

@dpk @kitten_tech there's already a filesystem-like thing so an obvious answer is "right there, with strict quotas" and idk, maybe? it doesn't feel right to me somehow.

@dpk @kitten_tech like for example this opens the door for fairly invasive types of tracking, code of unclear functioning running on the HTTP headers, and all that stuff. eh.

@dpk basically "how do you moderate?" is the core problem of social networking and running a wasm blob server side sure does not solve it

@kitten_tech @dpk yeah that's exactly the thing I don't know what to do about

@whitequark @dpk you could make a server side processing engine with a very limited sandbox, that's *just useful enough*; deciding the exact boundary would be a fun challenge though...
