     It's weird, I think it's a form of "compensatory conspicuous consumption"
     
     I saw this first on the FMP forums with guys who were working minimum wage jobs but buying $600 a month of rare metal vinyl
     
     They accept that they will never be real successes, but in their group, having enough bobbleheads means something.

     Funny you mention this. I buy lots of music on physical CD. Always have.
     
     Now, as the streaming services get more dodgy, we are trying to accumulate anything relevant on Blu-Ray (it's less than 1% of the movie industry's output).
     
     But it seems harder to find Blu-Ray players, and I don't know what I am gonna do when this Sony finally craps out.

     LG generally makes good stuff but the last Panasonic I had was brick-solid. It only did DVD not Blu-Ray however so it moved on.

     I don't care about FB or anything they do. I give people my card to invite them to fedi, the way the internet should work (fuck "search engines" tbh, find shit by asking friends, bookmark - and archive - interesting things you come across). But if they actually want to expose normies to fedi, that's a good thing, for the 0.001% of FB users that will actually join fedi properly.

     Raspberry pi, install a deamon, virtual CD reading software. Hardwire a laser pointer. Stick CD ontop of a carousel and spin. Output to TV.
