Up until the late 90s, tv and movies were the only source of stuff like that. How can you tell a youngster? They forget the internet wasn't always here, and even that had to evolve over time into the shitshow it is today. In conversation permalink -

How did that work? Is that manual code you had to clip out yourself to get an image on the screen or something 😏 In conversation permalink -

Computer punch cards worked by using patterns of punched holes to represent data and instructions, which were then read by a machine that converted the holes into digital information. To create a card, a keypunch machine was used to punch holes in a pre-defined coding scheme. For reading, the card was passed through a card reader, which used mechanical probes, or more commonly, a light-based system to detect the presence or absence of a hole in each position, thereby translating the physical holes into electronic signals that the computer could understand. What are the materials they use to make the shit in the motherboard and how did they figure out how to get it to process and transmit data onto a screen 😏 and if the data is stored in magnets, how does it take it out, does it put it back? In conversation permalink -

I bought a high end surround system back in 09 off some White guys who probably stole it for oxy money, and the amp on it had a 12 inch down facing sub with vacuum tubes in it 😏 had little tinted windows showing them as they glowed with a blue light when it was on. The MSRP price tag on the box was 3500 and I got it for 175. That thing was loud, I couldn't really use it in my apartment lol In conversation permalink -

The best guitar amplifiers use vacuum tubes. The Mesa Boogies use up to 4 stages, rectifier tubes to covert AC to DC (though the amps have diodes that can be selected in lieu with a switch), the amp itself, push-pull, 6l6 or el34, and the preamps, 12ax7, and preamp staging tube 1, also
12ax7. The triple is rated at 150 watts, but can easily hit 300+ rms, and is loud af.
Bass amps can also be tube, but most are now solid state. Some do have a tubed preamp. In conversation permalink -

I have a triple rect and a randall thrasher. Triple is all around solid and a beast. There's no better amp imo. The randall sounds good distorted with a mixed tube set, 2 el34 and 2 6l6. The clean channel sucks ass though. I use a tonebone to run both together, each through a mesa half-stack. In conversation permalink
