     @raucao how can Mastodon claim to be "for journalists" with this ? This feature is not good for them; if the quoted person doesn't like they're getting press they can press a button and stop it?

     @toothpaste_sandwich Because Mastodon isn't doing this out of spec, they're forcing this to be the spec. Repeatedly they force THEIR decisions on everyone else and block improvements others have proposed. They don't run the standards group giving equal votes to all the existing AP implementations or anything

     The rest of us will just keep using our existing quoting system we've been using for years that works just fine

     @feld I think it's a good thing they're being so careful with this. Many good reasons for this permission system have been given, and it certainly can't hurt to have these settings available.

     In effect, it's just the quoting system you'd expect, and by default all posts can be quoted. But people can opt out of it. Sure, you can still quote with screenshots, but there's an easier option available now.

     And if someone doesn't want to be quoted, that's fine, right?
