   On this day in 1966, Star Trek first beamed into living rooms across America. None of us could have imagined then the journey it would set us on. And not just the cast and crew, but the millions of fans who would find hope, inspiration, and community in its vision of the future.

   Over the decades, I’ve been humbled and grateful for the love you’ve shown, not only to me, but to the ideals of Star Trek itself: diversity, unity, and the belief that together, humanity can boldly go where none have gone before. Thank you for your unwavering support and for keeping this dream alive all these years. Live long and prosper, always.

     @georgetakei You, and some of the cast gave me the hope that I could be accepted one day. I’ve been struggle as being gay in a small town in the beginning of the 80’s.

     But Star Trek helped me believe in a bright future where everybody could be himself.

     It also the root of my passion for science and my regular geekiness.

     The hope in humanity that Star Trek displayed was ahead of its time.

     It showed "we don't have to live this way" to millions of people.

     We don't have to accept corruption.

     We don't have apathetically sit by & watch as the planet fries.

     We don't have to tolerate dictatorship.

     We don't have to live with an economy rigged against the very premise of "Live Long & Prosper" by selfish billionaires.

     I directly credit a childhood diet of Star Trek for making me the person I am today. I was shown that racism, sexism, hatred and corruption are inherently wrong and those messages have stayed with me.

     I've been a #StarTrek fan forever & TOS is one of my all-time fave shows. My family & I often have classic Trek playing in the background & seeing you there warms my heart & makes me love the show even more.
