Love this video promoting the free state, other than the conservative stance on ID checks at the polls at least. Don't get pulled in by stupid republican politics. As a whole libertarians want freedom including open boards, free trade, and if your physically here on voting day you should be able to vote. It doesn't matter if your 5 years old or 105, white, black, or mixed, gay, straight, bi, or something else entirely. My "legalize gay marijuana" t-shirt sums it up perfectly.
> As a whole libertarians want freedom including open boards
There is no consensus amongst self-described libertarians that borders should be open.
> and if your physically here on voting day you should be able to vote
Or that.
You can of course say that other libertarians are Actually Republicans, and they can say you're Actually Democrat, and then what... Only possible way forward is to accept that libertarianism is more broadly defined than you'd wish...
@cjd Right, so your going to tell me that libertarians support the state and apparatus that are drivers licenses and IDs? What your calling libertarian are really just conservative voices. Libertarians are for freedom in all its forms. Freedom to travel unmolested, economic freedom, etc. It's not to say that voting can't be restricted, to say 1 vote per person, but to rely on a state issued ID to that end is asinine and not libertarian.
@cjd@mr_penguin most libertarians believe in borders. Libertarians support open borders: the free movement of people and property across lines of government jurisdiction. Closed borders is one of the most authoritarian practices of governments in the 21st century.
Which one? 1. His assertion that no libertarian believes in borders 2. My assertion that there exist self-described libertarians that do 3. My claim that pointing fingers and saying "not real libertarian" is unproductive
You can call them conservative and they can call you a Democrat, and then what? Whose right? You and them are still both self-described libertarians.
When you specify that a "libertarian" is only someone who is against driving licenses (for instance), how are you not creating a "border" around the word "libertarian" and excluding people from it?
I get it that words mean things, and for example you can't really claim anti-war but still support every war the regime starts, but "libertarian" is a much broader term...
If there's a bunch of barbarians near your state, one person might very well say "I want a wall to keep them out, so I can enjoy the freedom of walking alone at night", and someone else might say "I don't want a wall because the wall makes me feel oppressed". They both have legitimate claims of being libertarian, and the only question is whose ideas will be more likely to result in something that feels like a free state.
Because at the end of the day, there is no enduring definition of freedom except "feels free". Whatever other definition you can produce can be attacked with some counter-example which meets the criteria but is, to any reasonable person, a dystopia.
"overpopulated world" that's like India and Africa. Europe is at below replacement level so the whole civilization is on track to be wiped out.
It won't though, it will just be conquered by Islam - which is needed. Western civilization is so weak and pathetic, even the most extreme of the extreme right is still weak.
Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, THESE are cultures with a future.
I have mixed opinions about open borders. I'm not a big fan of low trust society, BUT if mass migration brings Sharia Law to Europe (which is highly likely) then it's worth it to save Europe from population collapse caused by suicidal libertinism.
@cjd@mr_penguin some Libertarians hold positions on pet issues that are not libertarian, but there can be no argument that open borders is the only libertarian position. It also happens to be the only moral position, the only Christian position, and the most utilitarian position. RE: libranet.de/objects/0b6b25a8-1…
@cjd@fu@mr_penguin a large percentage of people in west just choose to not have children, in other cultures that's not normal at all. Like me, I never wanted children. All the tech don't help to promote people having children either. All the gadgets, modern life doesn't have any incentives to promote more children. Deep down I think it's actually just the nature of modern western society
@mk@cjd@mr_penguin there is an open border between Florida and Georgia. People, goods etc. are free to cross it as they fit, but each side of the line has different rules, enforcements, etc.
