You cannot separate Newsom from his embrace of anti-trans politics. You cannot trust Newsom to "fight against Trump" and pretend that it's a totally separate thing that he's courting nazis and bigots on his podcast.
He's not "fighting against Trump", he's fighting for himself. He's attempting to suck all the oxygen out of the room and build himself a little rah rah base. He's made it clear he doesn't think people with houses or trans people are worthy of respect and defense; why do you think that his saber rattling against Trump is going to end well for you?
This is the, "I judge a dating partner by how well they treat the waitstaff" litmus test. Just because he's making a big show of going against Trump does not mean he's here for you; he is embracing fascist talking points. He might end up "being better" in that maybe he harms fewer people but WE CAN DO BETTER.
Newsom's anti-trans shit isn't something you can set aside; it's a marker of who he is and what his strategy is. It's a ploy for power.
A lot of people who voted for Trump came up with reasons like "oh he supports the farm bill" "oh he'll lower my taxes" and just ignored all the racism and fascism and look how well that turned out. You set it aside at your own peril.

you cannot fight fascism with fascism.
transphobia ―which is an extension of misogyny, eugenics and ableism― is one of the HUGE markers of fascism.
now is the time to get rid of all the yupppie scum, fascism-lite ―WHICH IS STILL FASCISM― from the Democratic Party.
you want to fight fascists? DON’T DO FASCISM.
when you do hate like transphobia, racism, ableism, misogyny, xenophobia, you are doing #fascism.
and the only good fascist is a dead one.

Damn, you guys just don't understand strategic thinking. Newsom can be replaced, but if we don't fight the fascists, now, it is all over. Next comes the camps and the ovens for _everyone_.
He may hate you, but you still stand a better chance with someone like Newsom (who at least has some flexibility), than the fascist, eugenicists like Mad King TACO and SS leader Steven Miller. They will happily kill off everyone they deem "subhuman," including all non-christians, the old, the poor, and the disabled of all colors and orientations. They want a white, Christofascist nation, rigidly mind-controlled and monitored.

the nastiest replies in that thread are clearly coming from the people agreeing with you while using ableist language to scold trans people for calling out the problematic nature of endorsing a politician who is actively hostile to our existence. wow.

I would like to see a DNC that takes action for people and against fascism, not for the political whims of opportunists like Newsom. I would like a DNC that is against genocide and doesn't laugh and sneer at the names of murdered children. A DNC that doesn't increase funding for the police state as a reaction against police murdering Black people. A DNC that endorses Mamdani and others attempting to change and improve the system.
There are people willing to do that and we literally cannot settle for anything less. We've settled for the "lesser of two evils" for years. We're years away from the primary and Newsom is already running his campaign and getting everyone to be quiet about the bigotry and violence he's personally visited on the unhoused is part of his strategy.
I don't know whether there will be a 2028 election but I DO know we have time and effort to do better than a man who has personally destroyed the homes of people who already had nothing. A man who thinks Nazis "make some good points". -

@aud I see you. I hear you.
I agree with you on just about all of this.
My only point was that I was trying to encourage the blowback on Trump.
I also repeatedly said I agreed with the premises of the replies, but that they were accusatory & nasty, not as helpful & clear as your response
Replies to 1/2 of my sentence, despite my repeated clarifications, not helpful
"Political wins, Opportunism": 100% true. My goal was to exploit his posts to help open eyes to Trump, fight back.

Yes, this is a subpost; yes, it's a subpost because I don't follow that person and they explicitly asked people not to 'hijack' their thread to talk about this (despite the fact that they literally said the two things are separate when they are not).
If you're seeing this: I understand the desire to want someone to fight for people, but a man who is already throwing people under the bus is not that guy. Newsom is not going to protect against fascism. Not when he's personally embracing and enabling the police state.
Gavin Newsom is trying to force cities in CA to arrest the unhoused... which I am sure is VERY unrelated to their desire to use the prison population as unpaid firefighters. This is NOT the actions of someone who is fighting against fascism; this is an opportunist who knows how to grab a headline. That's what led us to the Trump problem in the first place. -

Yes, asking us to ignore or "set aside" his blatant anti-trans and anti-unhoused bigotry is defending him.
I assure you, we are NOT deficient in people who are willing to do stuff against Trump. Take the opportunity to show the Democratic party that being a bigot is not okay or allowed. When you try to silence people pointing this out, you're not sending a "I like that you're attacking Trump but don't like your bigotry" message like you might think.
This is the kind of stuff that has ended with us having a Democratic party that laughs while the names of dead Palestinian children are read off at the DNC. We want to do better, yes?
