   Seems like #Wiindows10 and 11 (and previous?) largely ditched the option to add shortcuts to the taskbar when installing a new app or game. Try as I might, I can't find it anymore.

   Or is this only a #Steam thing? 99% of my gaming is through Steam and can't find the option. Best I do is right-click it while the game is already running to pin it.

   Did Windows move away from adding stuff to the taskbar on install?

     @chucker Maybe that Quick Launch section is what I remember. I was off Windows for years, only recently jumped back in with 10 briefly and now 11.

     Some games I like having in the task bar for easy access. Guess I’ll have to keep doing it manually.

     @InfiniteHench @chartier so… traditionally, that wasn’t a thing. Installers would add to the Start Menu and possibly also the Desktop.

     Then they would start adding to Quick Launch, which was a Windows 98 thing as a little section right next to the Start button. At this point, the Task Bar still only showed running windows.

     But Windows 7 overhauled the Task Bar to *merge* those two, making it more like the macOS Dock: non-running apps were simply the Quick Launch folder.

     @emory I wonder if Steam defaults to not even offer adding things to the Start Menu if you're running in Big Picture. After all, the point is to put Windows in the backseat.

     @InfiniteHench when i install things via Steam on my wintendo (my AI workstation doubles as a game streaming platform for the house) it doesn't often add things to the Start menu apparently! i pretty much exclusively use Big Picture Mode for playing with a controller.

     my blizzard games and Mass Effect; things with traps called a 'Launcher' are in the Start menu, and when I install packaged software Windows 11 does offer to Start Menu or Desktop shortcut things.
