   Oh wow @supertux is on here!

   SuperTux is the first project I ever contributed to, though I worked on concept art not code and it was a long time ago. I made the designs for Nolok and Penny and that strange flying creature called the wingling/zeekling. Have a bunch of sketches sitting around somewhere...

   I owe a lot of my participation in FOSS to Grumbel (of Pingus/SuperTux revival ~fame) answering many, many of my questions over XMPP for years.

     @supertux I remember suggesting we have a cool flame sword powerup but Grumbel (correctly) said it wasn't very thematic and looked too LoTR

     @supertux I had hoped Penny would have a bigger role, and we had talked about as a team that the second half of the story would reverse things, and instead Penny would switch to saving Tux instead

     Anyway these were all from around 2003 or so. I was in college then, and around half my present age. A long time ago! Glad I could find/dig these up

     It was a fun time, I really appreciate Grumbel taking so much time to mentor me.

     I didn't have anyone else around me running or working on FOSS things, I was the sole Linux'y user in a small liberal arts college. Back then a lot of my day was spent talking with Grumbel mentoring me on many things, and @aeva and I mentoring each other.

     Formative time! I learned to build my art skills and was trying to overcome my imposter syndrome of tech/programming with the few community resources I had

     I don't mean to overstate my contributions. A few things I did made it in: the logo (I think), one enemy, and most excitingly, the Big Bad character.

     It was cool to have *anyone* take me seriously and accept my contributions. I wanted so badly to be a FOSS contributor and I didn't know how.

     I think what's cool is that SuperTux is one of those programs that ends up being important to a lot of people, because it fills a need that people don't have otherwise. FOSS games are really important, and I think their importance is often understated because they aren't "practical".

     But lots of people play these things, especially when very young, so it's cool to have made a memorable impact on people via one of the first projects I took part in, even if I didn't do that much
