    Delta Chat (delta@chaos.social)'s status on Monday, 04-Aug-2025 23:50:10 JST Delta Chat Delta Chat

    V2 #deltachat is rolling out after weeks of internal testing, a major milestone revising how end-to-end encryption works and bringing more beautiful contact and group profiles, direct access to chat-shared apps in the title bar and a "new email" action with setting a subject for those using a classic server.

    Best of all, users and developers don't need to co-ordinate anything for upgrading to V2 despite the massive security rework behind the scenes :)

      Delta Chat: Delta Chat V2: a major security upgrade, beautified contact profiles, new email action and direct app access in chats
      With Delta Chat Version 2, chats are end-to-end encrypted, always and by default. Previously it was possible that chats without green checkmarks could contain messages without end-to-end encryption...

      @raiden_fediverse IMHO Delta Chat should not even allow unencrypted messages. It's not an email client and shouldn't pretend to be.

      @feld @delta @leberschnitzel @adbenitez IMHO, there are better ways to distinguish encrypted chats from unencrypted ones. Especially in DC-iOS. I wrote a forum post about it.

      @feld @delta @leberschnitzel @adbenitez

      I'm more concerned that after the update I'll accidentally send a message to the wrong non-DC contact, since all chats look the same now.

      @raiden_fediverse @delta @leberschnitzel @adbenitez the envelope avatar for the chat isn't sufficient?

      "encryption is what is normal and don't need to be marked, unencrypted is the special bad situation and that is marked"

      Communication with non-DC contacts is not bad or special.

      @raiden_fediverse @adbenitez @leberschnitzel @delta "not bad or special" if you have no concern about a downgrade attack I guess

      @leberschnitzel but it is the same!!! you still have the extra confirmation, if there is no lock you have the confirmation that the message is encrypted, when it is not encrypted it will have an email/envelope icon, so you still have the confirmation nothing changed or got weakened, just that the icon now is in the unencrypted messages instead of the encrypted ones, encryption is what is normal and don't need to be marked, unencrypted is the special bad situation and that is marked

      @delta I was surprised about the removal of the locks on encrypted messages. I always liked that as extra confirmation even knowing that it is encrypted.
