I didn't realize how many video games have been influenced by David Cameron's "Aliens" (1986). Quite astonishing to watch the progenitor of a whole genre.

@simsa03 Oh, that's interesting. I've never seen the movie, and I rarely play videogames anymore, but that's still an interesting thing to hear.

It's the second installment of the "Alien"-franchise, and the second movie with Sigourney Weaver in lead role. But whereas the first "Alien" movie was more a psychological horror movie, this second one presents all the tropes of the later video games: mining planet, colony, alien takeover, the resuce squad in need to move through endless derelict corridors with broken equipment and zombie enemies, defeating the thing and barely making it out. You can find the same structure in Half-Life, Doom, Quake, F.E.A.R., System Shock... or newer titles like Metro, Callisto Protocol, Dead Space, Resident Evil and many other survival horror shooters. While I watched the movie I was perplexed to see how "fresh" its "stereotypes" look, only to realize that it must have been the other way around: The games repeat and re-use topics and game structures that are already laid out in full in this movie. Very interesting.

It's James Cameron, not David Cameron, my bad.
