@r @sally >instance is 173GiB
Yikes, but not too much.

Fast storage is absolutely proprietary - can Postgres accelerate things with 100GB of RAMdisk?

@Suiseiseki @sally I travel a lot and it's not possible for me to carry the server with me. The only practical way for me to do it is to pay someone else to manage the server for me. As for the space, the current data size of Postgres DB for this instance is 173GiB and around 30GiB of uploaded files. In terms of other resources, Pleroma itself is quite lightweight, but Postgres would need a fast storage and a bit of CPU/RAM as well depending on the load.

@r @sally How much space and resources does Pleroma take to host really?
We should really be hosting with 100% free software.

@sally There was something going on with the hosting provider. They were moving all of their hardware to another datacenter. According to their explanation, it was supposed to take less than 24 hours, but ended up taking more time due to some external reasons.

@r
People has some questions, or at the very least I do.
What went wrong?

@lispi314 @r @sally >173GiB and expanding won't reasonably fit into RAM even if you have 256GB of RAM, unless you don't use the server for anything else.

@Suiseiseki @sally @r If you have enough RAM to shove the entire DB into the page cache, it will get faster yes.
