Your VPN traffic from the computer you are on to the VPN is encrypted, but any traffic from the end of that VPN to anything else is no different than if you were sitting over there and making the same connection to the web. No extra encrpytion, no hidden ID, nothing.

Think of a VPN as a really long ethernet cable! You're just plugged in over there.

@sofiav I use it to ssh my servers without exposing ssh to the internet cause I am not confident in my ssh securing skills.

So if I subscribe to duck duck go vpn my device is directly connected to duck duck go servers. If I browse from there does it go back to duck duck go or am I still exposed? I don't do anything I need to worry about unless speaking out against government officials ever turns into a crime.

@Adventurer Like I poijted out, a VPN is just a long ethernet cable. You're just plugged in over there.
If you do something over that VPN that involves your ID, such as logging in to your accounts on social media, email, etc, allthe traffic you sent over that VPN is now tied to you.If you are posting speaking ot against the gov, have accounts you use only for that, and only log in to them on VPN, and never your other accounts on VPN.

@Adventurer When you do two different things over a connection, they're associated. So if you have seperate identities online, don't mix up whoxh goes on VPN and which goes not on VPN. Mix it up just once and it's blown

@Adventurer Of course I took time to explain it. My default is I love, on a general level, everyone who isn't awful. You've not shown me any reason to believe you'de awful. ♥️
I want you to be as safe as possible out there. -

@Adventurer A VPN is a great tool. Just be sure you understand what it actually does, what it doesn't do, when to use it, when not to use it, when a VPN isn't enough, and when a VPN is actually a detriment.
And always remember... when you feel conpletely safe, when you feel there is NO risk, I assure you you missed something.
EVERY action online has SOME level of risk. If you feel a sense of 0 risk, you fucked something up! -

@Adventurer
And of course, a sense of NO risk is very different than LOW risk. This reply to you is currently deemed, imo, low risk. It's not 0. It's never 0. Not even saving a file across my own network to my own other machine that is blocked from the internet is 0.
