     @Rasp some kinda latch that closes with an audible click. they used to have those but i guess they were afraid of kids getting stuck inside or something.

     @crlf well yeah there were more than a few deaths before the latches got peeled off. Fridges have to be air tight to work properly and that means a fixed amount of oxygen

     @Rasp i don't know how many lives would be worth the four cups of leftover chili i have in that fridge but it's probably not zero considering how i'm still going to eat it as long as it doesn't start to smell weird

     The reason is cost, why double down when you have a perfectly reasonable excuse to cut a feature that isn't strictly necessary for residential customers?

     @Rasp @crlf Which seems silly. Commercial refrigerators just added a way to open them from the inside, which would've been just as fine for domestic ones.

     @crlf @Rasp Try cleaning the mating surfaces of the fridge door seal and door frame. A littke grit or grime and they no longer magnet together whell, and thus rhe door won't stay shut very well.

     @crlf @Rasp When nice and clean, that magnet is supposed to assist with "didn't close it enough".
     It will actually pull itself shut if it's almody closed, even on cheap fridges - its not a "fancy fridge" feature. Some fancy fridges add to it with a bit of vacuum force.

     Cleaning the hinges can also help. They're often sloped in one spot to also assist with almost closed, but that can get gunked and become too level for that to work.

     @crlf While cleaning it, check that mushy part for tears. Its a common failure point for fridges, and fixing it early is cheaper. Good maintinence task if you're already going ti be cleaning it
