Me: You know how easy it is to make pancakes, right? Just some flour, butter, eggs, milk, boom, pancakes.
Kid: Yeah?
Me: You can buy pre-made pancakes!
Kid: I expected that.
Me: And there's canned spaghetti!
Kid: Yeah? Maybe you want the meat sauce to be just right?
Me: It's literally just tomato sauce and spaghetti! In a can! Warming it up takes about as long as just boiling normal dry spaghetti.
Kid: Whatever! That's still not as weird and lazy as PRE-SLICED CHEESE!

@mansr Yes, I explained that to him and it blew his mind.

@notclacke That's because cheese slicers are rare outside of Scandinavia.

@mansr Now I went looking for the kind of wire cheese slicer grandma had before the Norwegian cheese plane, and I found so many kinds of slicer I've never seen before.

@loke Fifteen years ago, IKEA HK had cheese slicers. Eight years ago, no more slicers.
If I need to replace one of my slicers, I'll go on a pilgrimage to northern Europe.
Same with usable can openers. ICA MAXI in Sweden is where the good household stuff is.

@notclacke @mansr How's cheese slicer access in HK? Although I suppose you have all you need from Ikea 🙂

@clacke @mansr @notclacke I'm pretty sure they had cheese slicers at IKEA Singapore. Now I need to check if they still have them.

@mansr This style can opener? Or ones with moving parts or worse leverage?

@clacke @loke @notclacke Tin openers can be found here in England. Potato peelers are a different matter.

@mansr Yeah I really don't like those. The one-piece lip-grip + knife-edge with a comfy handle beats every other idea by a wide margin.

@clacke @loke Mine is similar to this one. The exact model seems to have been discontinued in the ~20 years since I bought it.
