@N33R@fops.cloud I thought Netlix was a paid sunscription and therefore didn't have ads?
The ultimate greed of proprietary big tech never ceases to amaze me in going beyond to what I thought was even possible. -

@ozzelot@mstdn.social @N33R@fops.cloud Damn that sounds like worst of all worlds. Learn how to install and use a bittorrent client.

@SuperDicq @N33R To my understanding, Netflix now has an ad-supported tier in some territories. That you still pay for, of course.

@taylan@fedi.feministwiki.org @ozzelot@mstdn.social @N33R@fops.cloud I don't like in an techno-autocratic shithole and the copyright mafia has no such powers here.

Naive torrenting can get you quickly caught these days.
I got a legal letter on behalf of Warner Brothers a while ago due to someone allegedly having torrented a Netflix show from my network. -

@taylan@fedi.feministwiki.org @ozzelot@mstdn.social @N33R@fops.cloud Like did you know that nobody can actually dox you using your ip address unless your ISP screws you over?
ISPs don't have to give your dox to companies upon copyright violation requests, they can just choose to ignore it. -

@taylan@fedi.feministwiki.org @ozzelot@mstdn.social @N33R@fops.cloud They've been trying to do this for the past 20 years in the Netherlands, but the ISPs keep refusing. They also tried through court multiple times and they keep losing.

You live in the Netherlands, right? This happened to me in Germany, so I wouldn't be surprised if they start doing it there as well.
My brother had it happen to him in the US about 5-10 years ago already. I think they're slowly expanding. -

@taylan@fedi.feministwiki.org @ozzelot@mstdn.social @N33R@fops.cloud Yes indeed, most German ISPs simply play along with the copyright mafia.

@Eiregoat@nicecrew.digital This is a well known strategy, not something you have to suspect. This is literally how all venture capital funded companies work.

I strongly suspect a lot of these streaming startups are operating at a massive loss to drive adoption. Then they need ad revenue (or at least something) to actually turn a profit.
