@KaiserKitty that's mental illness. Who in their mind would associate Wayland with gaming? I can only associate it with terrible latency, software incompatibility and session lockout

@KaiserKitty reading the 1st sentence of the 2nd line was enough for me to disregard the retard. My laptop WILL do all I want to do, from games to AI. What some retarded boomer thinks means less to me than india does

@baka9baka because it has hdr support better vrr support and latency doesnt apply when you use wine wayland lol (it is in GE-proton currently). Plus kwin has better pixel grid under wayland

@baka9baka @pom personally i use kwin for gaming since it just works. Gamecsope is always funky for me on desktop tho it works fine on steamOS. On SteamOS gamescope runs separately from X11 in game mode. Support for Kwin was merged in like plasma 5 i think.

@KaiserKitty @pom why is it called "tearing control"... The compositor support chart seems odd, no support on Mutter and GameScope - the former being the most usable Wayland environment, the latter being a game-oriented one

@pom @KaiserKitty X11 has PageFlip, a feature for rendering fullscreen windows directly to your framebuffer (DRM) without needing to go through X11. A zero-copy output. Nothing can get faster than this

@KaiserKitty @baka9baka gamescope has better latency than even fullscreen uncomposited X11 if you're using it with a VRR monitor and a few other sanity check options (--immediate-flips --adaptive-sync --expose-wayland). There are serious arguments for X11 in many types of applications, but what the OP is spewing is obviously deluded nonsense and any domain expert can recognize it as such.

@pom @baka9baka @mischievoustomato I haven’t done any super scientific tests against k win but I didn’t feel any difference when playing the same game in uncomposited x11 vs Wayland under kwin back to back. I even got a higher score on the Wayland games. Normally I can “feel” for noticeable input lag via comparing arcade game performance.

@baka9baka @KaiserKitty @mischievoustomato not tomato, but I can give some data on this, my best TGM1 time in mutter is 20-30sec worse than my best time using gamescope, which in a game like TGM1 at my level, is basically an eternity (my normal PB is 10:12 normal and 9:44 20G, for comparison the WRs are 8:48 normal and 8:33 20G, most players only ever aim for sub-10 normal at best)

@pom @KaiserKitty @baka9baka i wish gamescope was more reliable. If often just doesn't work with some games.
