   Are there any examples of outspoken transphobes repenting? There must be, but I can't think of any. The one old school, Baby-Boomer radical feminist I can think of who explicitly rejects transphobia (Judith Butler) never embraced it to begin with, iirc. Robin Morgan sadly still clings to her brand of "Transphobia Lite." And of course that one who was known ONLY for her virulent transphobia is still doubling down in her dotage.

     @Schnipsel Yeah, I know plenty of non-famous feminists who did not question the transphobia of the 70s and 80s at the time but explicitly reject it now. But the big names are still stuck in 1972.

     @Rachel_Thorn Saying Judith Butler rejects transphobia is putting it mildly, lol.

     But sadly I don't really know of any prominent examples really. When the TERFs started forming a mob and attacked queer and feminist spaces in a city in our region there were some to whom it was an eye-opening moment and who have changed opinions after that, but these were all just random people, no big names obviously.

     @elilla Well, that was me. I was an androgynous "boy" feminist in the 80s, and didn't come out till I was almost 50. 30+ years wasted pretended to be a dude. I even listened to and read some of the anti-transsexual rhetoric back in the day, and thought, "Well, if she says it, it must be true. I think I will just keep these feelings to myself. Clearly I am just confused."

     @Rachel_Thorn I know of one person who surprised me by saying she was an ex TERF, would never have guessed.

     I think more broadly one won't see many vocal "repenters", though. Those who were never active in those circles will remain so, and those who WERE will know full well how much abuse they would get and stay quiet.

     Of the second lot, those who want to get out safely will likely just quietly fade away if they can. The loudest ones are trapped by their own mob, though.

     @Rachel_Thorn For sure. I occasionally think about how even some deeper down the rabbit hole might realise their mistakes but they know they have to stay committed to the bit. They've stoked a virulent and dangerous group that they can unleash whenever, and they fear being on the receiving end not just as a one-off, but as a renowned "turncoat" they'd get it for longer and worse.

     How does one save these people from what they've done? Genuinely no idea.

     @RachAirStailc I don't know, and I'm glad it's not my job to save them. If what you say is true, they're a lot like the supposedly rational conservatives who jumped on the Trumpism bandwagon because it seemed pragmatic to do so, and now they can't get off because they're more afraid of their own supporters than of Democrats.

     @mynameisfiber I had not known of her specifically, though I Googled and CrashChaosCats sounds vaguely familiar. That's a sad story, but I'm glad it has a happy ending.
