So the nicest firewall and router vendor have since long had a presence of Fediverse - and it looks like they just launched a Peertube-instance too!

    I love it!

    @mikrotik@tiktube.com

    Thank you @mikrotik@mikrotik.social

@selea @mikrotik Nicest? They take the users freedom and blatantly infringe the GPLv2.

I am still waiting on the source code of the; routeros-7.18.1-mipsbe.npk file I downloaded.

They didn't reply to my last post and so I'll post it again; https://freesoftwareextremist.com/notice/ArsTahdA4wn9kzv57o
Does that router come with a written offer?

I see I can downloading the latest version of routerOS from here; https://download.mikrotik.com/routeros/7.18.1/routeros-7.18.1-mipsbe.npk but there is no written offer for the source code.

      `binwalk -e routeros-7.18.1-mipsbe.npk` finds a squashfs-root partition and is quite clearly a BusyBox/Linux partition.

There is quite a bit of GPLv2 software there, including bin/sshfs and Linux modules,

      There are also these proprietary derivative works of Linux; etc/ar7100-7.18.1.fwf etc/ar9330-7.18.1.fwf etc/ar9340-7.18.1.fwf etc/ar9344-7.18.1.fwf etc/fan_i2c.stm32 etc/pse-ch4-RB960.samd20 etc/pse-ch8-CRS328.samd20 etc/qca8513L-7.18.1.fwf etc/qca9531-7.18.1.fwf etc/qca9550-7.18.1.fwf
      etc/ar7240-7.18.1.fwf etc/ar9330L-7.18.1.fwf etc/ar9340L-7.18.1.fwf etc/ar9344L-7.18.1.fwf etc/poe-pse-proxy.stm32 etc/pse-ch8-CRS112.samd20 etc/qca8513-7.18.1.fwf etc/qca8719L-7.18.1.fwf etc/qca9531L-7.18.1.fwf etc/qca9550L-7.18.1.fwf

Where is the written offer for the source code and when can I get the complete-corresponding source code?

@mikrotik @selea You are welcome to also provide the sources of a later version as well, but to comply with the GPLv2, you must also provide need specifically the sources of version `7.18.1` - not a later version.

As linked above, you are still distributing the sources of that version from your website, thus there is no excuse to not to provide that version.

Also, have you added the missing written offer?

@Suiseiseki @selea We have given our GPL patches also for previous versions for many years. We take these requests very seriously. All needed information is also in the RouterOS license. In our case these patches are prepared by hand so it takes a little time. I'm sorry that we tried to make you the newer patches instead of an older version.

@mikrotik I now see that on the page there is a link on the bottom - but that doesn't do anything without proprietary JavaScript.

Now that I inspect the HTML I have found this page; https://mikrotik.com/downloadterms.html

The EULA on that page contains terms that infringe the GPLv2.

The offer on that page is not a valid written offer, as corresponding sources that build the .npk are not offered; https://softwarefreedom.org/resources/2008/compliance-guide.html

@Suiseiseki FSF has already verified that our license and patches are compliant with GPL requirements. We will prepare the patches, like I said, we have never tried to stop people getting them and are always providing everything that is required.

@mikrotik Why did you lie?; "We will prepare the patches, like I said, we have never tried to stop people getting them and are always providing everything that is required." - it's clear that you don't as it has been several months since my original request and still nothing.

It doesn't take that long to provide a source candidate - as that merely requires putting a copy of the source code and build scripts and build instructions into a GNU tar archive and then proceeding to extract that archive onto a chroot or VM and checking if that compiles and fixing it if not.

Even the additional task of deleting the source code of the aggregated proprietary programs and only leaving the binaries shouldn't take that long, even if the build script needs to be modified to manually copy them to the root fs instead of compiling them.

      It gets better.

If you scroll down at the bottom on their downloadterms.html for the "Miscellaneous" software licenses, you can see all license copies point to 404s on their site. It takes far more effort on making things tedious and deliberately broken to make people waste their time and hide the fact they infringe (multiple) free software licenses than to simply comply.
