     @genmaicha there's control characters in there but I absolutely cannot figure out how to decode the shit. it's entirely possible that the data is just filled with garbage

     @istvan @genmaicha I found out none of them actually had the data set, the fields were there and were set to be zero-length, but then for no good reason, the space allocated for those fields was filled with gibberish.
     
     furthermore I found out that much of what I was trying to do was impossible because docs implied there was a compressed and uncompressed version of the file format--but I eventually learned that it really only uncompressed to memory, the docs said "do this for uncompressed" but after analysis of the actual playback code, there was no support for it.

     @lebronjames75 @genmaicha yes AT2 is my reference. It turned out that almost no a2m files I tested that were included with adlib tracker have any metadata at all
     
     I also confirmed that specs on the file format aren't accurate.

     @sun @genmaicha most mod instrument name s, sample names, song names, etc must be 8 letters in ye olde days
     
     Author names and true titles are often written in comments of the instrument / sample itself
     
     Have you tried using a a2m module compatible tracker, such as AdLibTracker 2, to compare all the info of your files to a working reader?

     @lebronjames75 @genmaicha I have three separate implementations of A2M players but ultimately I Found out there are 14 largely incompatible "versions" of A2M and a lot of what I wanted to do wasn't even possible.
