   after about five years of intermittently evaluating it, i have finally found a use case for "ai" that i couldn't solve more easily, accurately, or quickly by other means

   chatgpt identified a connector for me from a picture that google image search couldn't. despite being manifestly unable to count to 5, it actually solved a problem for me!

     @promovicz like... image search was never accurate in any way, so i hoped this would be at least on par with it

     i think it is, with the added feature of confidently lying to me. sigh

     okay, i finally identified the connector. the outcome is about what you'd expect
     - i measured the pitch incorrectly, it was 1.25mm and not 1.5mm
     - chatgpt identified my image (5 pins, top mount, latched, 5 pin) plus 1.5mm pitch as 6-pin JST ZH (can't count but correct otherwise; doesn't match the drawing at all)
     - i identified the connector because some guy obsessively catalogued all JST connectors
     - with the correct pitch chatgpt identifies it as JST GH which is the right one

     maybe we'll arrive at this technological milestone in fifty years
