@jeremiah @mangeurdenuage There is no guarantee that the people would have lived if more rent was paid and the extra functionality of the proprietary software was made available.
I believe the "extension" offered added a function that would report if the MCAS was behaving abnormally and therefore possibly given the pilots a chance to realize that the MCAS was nosediving the plane and disable it - configuring proprietary software is hard enough when you're not in a nosediving plane.

@mangeurdenuage that's literally the opposite of the case. people would have lived if they had paid for more proprietary software, which does not imply that the software in use on the plane was non-proprietary.
