Andor has crossed that line. It's become one of those shows that feels like work. You know the feeling — when the effort of following the plot lines, the lugubrious tone, and the pompousness of the storytelling outweighs the entertainment value. Why does it sometimes seem like that is the last consideration: whether the show is actually enjoyable.

Imagine including a portentous seven-minute scene in which a clairvoyant basically says — "he's special." My god.

Wow. Couldn't disagree more. This is the first bad review of this show I've seen, so congrats, I guess. 👍

Just my opinion, but I would call it my favorite Star Wars if it weren't for the fact that The Mandalorian was MADE for me (as an old school Western and Samurai flick fan).

I feel like ANDOR is PEAK right now. This week's episode was like the 'Red Wedding' of Star Wars. I've never seen a better hour of TV than ep 8. Just sad we only get one more week.

@jacklaridian I liked the first season a lot and have been intermittently on-board for some of this season. When it's good, it's good. But I can't deny the feeling I have when loading it up, when it starts to feel like work rather than fun.

Although, the first episode of every unit of three felt like that in the first season, too.

You don't have any notes? Loving it?

Oh also, this moment was needed to set ep the heartbreaking moment in ep 9. We can infer she was using the Force, but this is really the first time something like this has happened on this show and it foreshadows not only the show but "Rogue One' as well.

@jacklaridian I guess I should persevere. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood but episode 7 was feeling like a grind to me. I'm happy if more serious Star Wars fans are getting what they want from it.

Well, the first thing she says is 'Who are you?' to Andor, almost like she realizes his importance without knowing why. Every once in a while we get reminders of the Force, without actually using Jedis and I think characters like this and Chirrut represent a different idea than Jedis.

'm overly-sensitive to directors being pretentious (can't stand most Oscar bait films), but no I didn't feel that here. It's Star Wars and the Force will always be important to the story.

@jacklaridian You didn't find it just a bit tedious in the moment, as a scene in a tv show? It could be that these things are written with the Star Wars fan base in mind, and maybe certain things that would strike me as dull register in a different way for people who are well-versed in the lore. And not that I don't respect the writers' desire to make a more serious Star Wars show, but yeah, "portentous" was the word that came to mind.

I just realized you haven't see episodes 8 and 9 yet, which is wild. You do realize the three were meant to be watched together, right? It's like watching act I of a film and deciding the pivotal scene is unimportant, without waiting to see why.

Also, I meant pretentious. As in, attempting to impress by affecting greater importance. Both words could work in this scenario. Watch episodes 8 & 9 before judging ep 7.

@jacklaridian I didn't even think it was pretentious. Portentous — overly weighty and self-serious. I also thought it was slightly cheesy, having a character deliver these prophecies or intuitions that sort of flatter the protagonist — he has such strength, he's carrying such weight, he's important. It's like telling rather than showing.

Anyway, I wasn't meaning to deflate anyone else's enjoyment of the show. Just my feeling. I'm sure episodes 8 and 9 ramp up.

It's not my goal to argue. I get that you got bored in ep 7, but I assure you it gets better. I think where I get annoyed is when people hashtag their gripes. I follow the ANDOR hashtag because I love it and life is too short to complain about shit you don't like. Save the hashtags for spreading the LOVE. 🥰

@jacklaridian I thought you were responding to me calling it portentous. Otherwise, why defend it against a charge that I didn’t make? Like you, I haven’t found it pretentious. They’re not totally synonymous words, though I grant that you often find one where you find the other.

You can hashtag all you want, but I'm probably just going to mute you if you shit on something I love. Nothing personal, but I came to Mastodon to get away from negativity.

@jacklaridian We’re all watching the same show and, as long as criticisms are made in good faith, I don’t think anybody should have to hold back on expressing their opinion for fear of raining on someone else’s parade.
