    Pourquoi est-ce qu'ils peuvent pas écrire "margarine" sur l'emballage ? Est-ce quelqu'un sait ?

@iro_miya@mk.absturztau.be Isn't the real difference that butter is made from milk while margarine is made from vegatable oil?

Butter is the same though, it can't be sold as butter if the fat isn't in specific brackets, and yet you do see products sold as "butter" but you pretty much never see "margarine"...

Ah yes it's actually that, it does say "fat spreads" which is a regulated term specifically for margarine that isn't in any of those brackets

Best guess is that EU law says that they can call it "margarine" if it has 80-90% fat, "three-quarter-fat margarine" for 60-62% fat, and "half-fat margarine" for 39-41% fat, and this margarine is not in any of those ranges it's about 50%

@iro_miya@mk.absturztau.be Fun fact in Dutch we call half-fat margarine "halvarine"

@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo yeah but I meant that butter also has brackets for fat amounts and if they're not respected it can't be called butter, and yet that hasn't been an issue for products being called butter
