Jacked up the WRX onto four stands this morning and replaced the trans/front/center-diff oil (all combined on Subarus) and the rear diff oil.
Getting those rear diff plugs out was a bitch; had to use PB spray, a breaker bar, a special ordered 13mm square bit and a heat gun! Last time I changed both was 29k miles .. and honestly it looked barely used pouring out. At 140k miles now and I don't think I'm going to do that again until 200k.
Also did the engine oil/filter while it was up on stands, but it seems like I did that ~4k miles ago .. so that was kinda a waste. But at least it's all done.

My Tacoma has hex plugs on the front diff. I got them both out but I pretty much stripped the drain plug. The Lexus plugs for that exact same diff has normal bolts on it, and I bought the drain plug at the dealership for $13. They didn't have the Lexus version of the fill plug, but that one was fine and I'll just swap it out next time (which won't be for like 40k miles / ~4 years).

@djsumdog i'd better just get a new front diff drain plug before attempting to drain it next time, that thing isn't surviving for long

on the Subaru? Yea I made the mistake of trying to just use the standard 1/2 inch that normally holds on sockets. It would not budge and started to bite into the metal. I looked it up and Subaru diffs are not 1/2 inch, they're 13 mm square. None of the stores here carry square bits (Autozone, Home Beepo, etc.). I had to order that one. A 13mm made a much better connection, but I still needed the heat gun.
Front was a T-70 Trox, which I could get locally and that one came right out without much issue.

@skylar @djsumdog Worse, they use inside square drive like what you find on the old Borg-Warner transfer cases.

How did you get it out? Drill? Weld a bit to it?
