100% tariffs on foreign films will be a hard pill for the leftoid haters to swallow. For one, the teamsters will profit immensely from restarting movie production domestically. For another, all those hollywood assholes who campaigned against him will be working again.

Yeah, I’m not so sure about this one now. Probably a response to China limiting the number of movies allowed from the USA.
He’d be enriching enemies too.
Factor in Ai and a movie could be made entirely on a server.

@magicalthinking more importantly, Trump's entering a dangerous territory imposing tariffs on services. That's where the rest of the world can actually retaliate and it will hurt, since the US actually exposes a lot of services

How such a tariff would be calculated would be tricky.

@mk @magicalthinking @Sophistifunk it is socialism. Unfortunately tho, with a big ass player like china that subsidizes its manufacturing there's hardly any other way. Kinda gotta fight fire with fire

what do you think would happen if switzerland announces that their currency is going to be backed by gold?
there would be a huge demand of swiss franc, the price of gold would skyrocket.
fiat currencies would massively devalue against the gold backed swiss franc.

@mk @magicalthinking @Sophistifunk the first county that does that will be crushed by all the rest of the world still using fiat. How can you possibly compete against someone who can just print up whatever money they need when you need to go mining for gold or something to pay your working class? 😉

"since they can't possibly have enough gold"
unless they don't print more swiss franc than they have gold...
"the frank would quit simple become practically worthless."
how? how does high demand of the swiss franc make it worthless?

@mk @magicalthinking @Sophistifunk everyone would be, like, ok, show ne the Gold. And since they can't possibly have enough gold to really make swiss frank redeemable in gold at any reasonable rate, the frank would quit simple become practically worthless. That is what would happen ;)

on top of a gold backed currency switzerland could also make access to bitcoin easier.
you can give bitcoin to your bank.
they store them for you and give you bitcoin IOUs to make lightning-fast bitcoin transactions.basically what https://lnbits.com/ does but with fiat/crypto/franc instant trading capability.
there's HUGE amounts of money to be made in financial services in the future.
switzerland would be retarded not to cash in on that.

for example...
just giving people a convenient to store their wealth in bitcoin while paying bills with debt (https://mastodon.satoshishop.de/@mk/113905246862572501) would be a very valueable financial service for a lot of people.

@mk @magicalthinking @Sophistifunk
There's approximately 996455 million CHF
And Switzerland holds roughly 1,040 metric tons of gold.
A ton of gold is about €56,089,940, frank being pretty much equal to euro..... They're kinda short on metal ;)In conversation permalink -

"well then we're talking fiat"
what's your position?
gold backed IOUs can only exist in paper and not in sql databases, because you can print paper not as fast? is that your position? if yes, it's retarded. In conversation permalink -

gold backed money doesn't mean money made out of gold.
it means you give me gold and i give you a IOU that's worth the amount of gold that's printed on it.
here's how gold backed paper-currency started:
