I don’t understand people who think fish sauce and fermented foods are smelly.
I don’t even want to know what you eat if you’re so impacted by something so basic like that!

@chrisjrn i would agree, if lots of the people who think these things didn't also do a blanket 'all SE Asian foods are smelly' thing. people with food sensitivity, i get
@skinnylatte eh, different things are smelly to different people 🤷
@msbw Kenji Alt-Lopez advocates for putting a bit in a pasta sauce.
@skinnylatte fish sauce is magic. Made something with it last night and was marveling at its perfection.
This also reminds me of business trips to Vietnam where people would show me various fermented fish condiments to see how scared I would get. I was like.. I’ve been eating these since I was a baby??
this toot inspired by a 'what is my neighbor cooking that it is so smelly?' question, and all of the answers people are providing are just like, food to me
@noah @msbw yeah anything with tomatoes is great
my mom uses it to marinate chicken wings
@skinnylatte
I can absolutely see this! I usually put anchovies on my pasta sauce to add depth but fish sauce is a great idea too!
@msbw
@jlin like blue cheese, varies in quality. i'm of the opinion that nobody should bother with durian outside of durian season outside of being physically in malaysia or thailand.
@skinnylatte I really can't stand durian though
@skinnylatte a friend of mine once informed me that their mother considered *ketchup* to be "spicy"
@csgordon I’ve heard there are some people who find mayo spicy.
